Welcome to the 2009 Summer Singles Competition
This is a new competition in our tennis calendar. It seeks to fill the gap between the Brophy-McDonnell Cup in April and the Club Championships in August. The format is mens singles and ladies singles as scheduling for doubles matches is too difficult over the holiday season.
Men have been drawn into groups of 7. Ladies have been drawn into groups of 7. Every player has to play all of their group opponents before Friday August 14th. Then over the weekend of August 15th-16th the top two ladies by score from each of the two ladies groups will play semi-finals and final. Similarly over the same weekend the winner of each of the men's groups and the highest scoring runner-up will play semi-finals and final.
Every match will be the best of three sets with long deuces. One point will be awarded for the victory and one point will be awarded for each set won. For example if a player wins 2-0 sets the he/she gets 3 points and the oppenent gets 0 points. If a player wins 2-1 sets then he/she gets 3 points and the opponent get 1 point. Adrian Blakemore (Men's Captain) is tournament referee for the men's singles and Maire Dowdall (Ladies Captain) is tournament referee for the ladies singles. General queries can also be directed to Shaun McCormack (Vice-Chairman), Lynne Woods (Treasurer) and Sean O'Shea (Chairman).
Two hours on the booking sheet can be used per match. Please note "MATCH" as well as your name on the booking sheet.
The cost of the competition is €12 per person. Please pay promptly.
