Welcome to the 2007 Winter League

Welcome to the 2007 Winter League. We are now in the depths of Winter and the club hopes that this competition will encourage members to turn off their televisions, put away the chocolate and run off their Winter blues. The format of the Winter League is mixed doubles where possible.

The draw has split the entrants into three groups. Within each group there are six mixed doubles pairs. Overall there are six teams with each team comprised of one mixed doubles pairing from each group. Scores for each team will be calculated each week. At the end of the five weeks of competition total team scores will be calculated and the top four teams will enter the semi-finals and finals phase of competition in week six.

The draw and times of Winter League matches have been finalised for
Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 and Semi-Finals. On the scoreboard you can follow the scores of your team and yourself. To check the whos who of the Winter League a photo album of participants is provided.

The entry fee is €12 per player and will be collected at the Week 1 matches. The rules of the competition are also available.

Winter League Rules

1. A match consists of 17 games with a short deuce in each game. When playing a short deuce a female server has to serve to a female opponent and a male server has to serve to a male opponent. Where the opposition is of the same gender the opposition chooses who is to receive serve. All 17 games are to be played. The last game is always a tie-break.

2. If any team is 3 games behind their opponents they start the new game with a +15 advantage.

3. If any team is 5 games behind their opponents they start the new game with a +30 advantage.

4. If any team is 7 games behind their opponents they start the new game with a +40 advantage.

5. Each team is responsible for calling the ball on their side of the court. If the ball cannot be called out with total confidence then the ball is ruled to be in.

6. Players are expected to play the game in a courteous and respectful manner.

7. If you cannot play your match it is your responsibility to arrange a sub. Please pick a sub from the group that you've been drawn in. If you have made a reasonable effort and still cannot find a sub then please contact the club captains Mark Carroll or Lynne Woods for assistance. Alternatively if a sub is still unavailable then the match can be played on another night but before the following week's games. If it is not possible to arrange a sub or reschedule the match then the team who could not play the match at the original time loses the tie 10-7.

8. The tournament referee, Sean O'Shea, reserves the right to change the rules as he deems appropriate.
