Welcome to the 2009 Winter League

Welcome to the 2009 Winter League League. This is the last competition of 2009 and provides entrants with a great opportunity to firm up before the Christmas festive season. The below paragraphs contain information on the scoreboard, competition draw, weekly match information and competition rules. Most importantly the club hopes all entrants enjoy themselves.

Competition Scoreboard

Click here for the most up-to-date individual and team scores.

The scoreboard may not contain all scores as some games cannot be played on Wednesdays and some scores come in late. Also please remember that the team score is the most important score. Every game played by the four team pairings contributes equally towards the overall team score.

It is the responsibility of the winning team to text the match score to the club mobile 085-1507484.

Substitutions for group B can come from groups B or C.
Substitutions for group C can come from groups C or D.
Substitutions for group D can come from group D. On an exceptional basis a substitute could also come from group C but this would only be at the discretion of the club captains.

Rules of Competition

1. A match consists of 17 games with a short deuce in each game. When playing a short deuce a female server has to serve to a female opponent and a male server has to serve to a male opponent. All 17 games are to be played. The last game is always a tie-break.

2. If any team is 3 games behind their opponents they start the new game with a +15 advantage.

3. If any team is 5 games behind their opponents they start the new game with a +30 advantage.

4. If any team is 7 games behind their opponents they start the new game with a +40 advantage.

5. Each team is responsible for calling the ball on their side of the court. If the ball cannot be called out with 100% certainty then the ball is ruled to be in. Aggressive line calling is not in the spirit of the Winter League.

6. Players are expected to play the game in a courteous and respectful manner.

7. If you cannot play your match it is your responsibility to arrange a sub. Please pick a sub from the group that you've been drawn in. All member mobiles will be on a list in the light meter box for courts 1 and 2. If you have made a reasonable effort and still cannot find a sub then please contact the club captains Adrian Blakemore or Maire Dowdall for assistance. Alternatively if a sub is still unavailable then the match can be played on another night but before the following week's games. If it is not possible to arrange a sub or reschedule the match then the team who could not play the match at the original time loses the tie 10-7.

8. The tournament referees, Adrian Blakemore and Maire Dowdall, reserve the right to change the rules as they deem appropriate.

9. All scores are to be texted to the tournament referees on 085-1507484 promptly after the match is complete. No verbal communcation of scores will be accepted.
The winning team has responsibility to communicate the match score.
